Jukebox The Ghost - Let Live And Let Ghosts (2008)

Hailing from the recently revived Washington, DC pop scene, Jukebox the Ghost is a t piano driven indie rock trio.

After two years of playing together as college roommates and as friends, Ben Thornewill (piano/keys/vocals), Tommy Siegel (guitar/vocals) and Jesse Kristin (drums) took a nine-month hiatus to study abroad. When the band reunited, it was clear that the amount of new material deserved a brand new band name: Jukebox the Ghost. With a new sound and a new name in tow, they began testing the water in other cities, playing shows up and down the east coast and adopting devoted fans along the way.

The band’s triumphant rebirth wasn’t free from disaster — The band’s touring vehicle was burned down by arsonists in the middle of the night in downtown Washington, D.C. (the arsonist roams free to this day…Beware!) Finally ready to take their music to the next level, the band purchased a new tour van and began working on their debut full-length album in early 2007 at Low Watt Studios in Raleigh, NC.

Their debut album, “Let Live and Let Ghosts” weaves together a complex musical tapestry, featuring a broad collection of songs including classical-influenced two-part epic (”My Heart’s the Same”/”Lighting Myself on Fire”) and a multi-part musical narrative centered around the apocalypse(”Fire in the Sky”/”Where Are all the Scientists Now?”/”A Matter of Time”) — Interspersed with tightly-constructed pop tunes. Critics and fans have raved about their quirky lyrics, inventive songwriting, and their flamboyant, energetic live shows. Since graduating from the George Washington University in 2007, Jukebox the Ghost has toured constantly, performing with Ben Kweller, Regina Spektor, Kanye West, Le Loup, Ra Ra Riot, Tokyo Police Club, and Travis Morrison (Dismemberment Plan), among others. The band has performed at CMJ, and will be heading to SXSW in March ‘08 for multiple performances.
